I called it once when a bus had CALL 911 across its front sign. I called and the operator ook the info and said ty. A couple of minutes later the driver came out looked at the front of the bus and changed his sign.

The other time was an accident where i didnt dial it but i connected to 911 when dialing numbers into a telephone menu system,

Two police showed up at 7 am sunday morning, talked a little and they met the kids and that was it.

Have had to dial 911 only four times in my life 2 were for fires, once was to call an ambulance , once was dealing with my ex husband showing up at my home repeatedly

1st I was about 12 and babysitting my brother at home was sitting watching tv and noticed orange light outside, through the glass in mom's front door looked out and saw that someone had started afire on our driveway (besideour motor home) I was panicked not sure if I should throw water or something on it - called 911 the operator was very helpful talked to me told me just to tell her if the fire was getting bigger but not to do anything because we weren't sure what the fire was started with and she didn't want to make it worse or spread. She stayed on the line with me until the firemen got there.

2nd time an older hotel was on fire in DT and I was walking by with SO and we heard the alarms and saw people coming out, and tos of people starin at the hotel but there were no fire trucks we phoned 9-1-1 and the operator dispatched a truck immediatly they had no calls about this fire since the alarm system was so old it was not connected to a automated system. She kept me on the line until I heard the sirens coming toward me.

3rd there was an older (homeless) guy just laying in the middle of the sidewalk looked like he had banged his head on a rock by my office. it was 30 degrees out and I didn't know if he had passed out or something. I have to admit I was scared to touch him in case he was dead or he grabbed me so I called 9-1-1 and the operator had an ambulance meet me and they helped the man out.

Last I had to deal with the police 9-1-1 when my ex husband kept showing up at my house after we had split up and he kept threatening me. We had been spilt up for ayear and when he found out I was now dating SO he went crazy. and kept showing up at my home. The 9-1-1 operator was amazing she kept me calm because by the tim eI had called it was the 15th time he had been at my door throughout the night she just kept asking questions to know where the ex was at all times while I was waiting for the police to show up and talk to him. My SO was one the way over to pick me up for work she had me call him from my cell phone tell him to wait to come get me so there wouldn't be a confrontation but the whole time kept me on the house line because the ex had been trying to get into my house she asked so many questions that I didn't realize how She really made me stay focussed.

I had to call 911 10 years ago. I was involved in a 4 vehicle car accident (I was in the middle).

Ironically enough DH was a 911 call taker at the time and he picked up the phone. Calmly I told him there was a 4 vehicle MVA, the location and to dispatch fire, police and ambulance. He asked if there were any injuries. I told him that there didn't appear to be anything too serious, there were fluids leaking, a lady hit her leg and Dad and I got quite a jolt. It was only then that he realized WE were IN the accident. He remained calm and professional but yelled out to one of the police officers who were going to attend that there was a "personal interest" involved. Next thing I know, the police are arriving and Mike is jumping out of one of the cars. The police made sure he could leave work, got relief in early and came to make sure we were ok.

Now if you want to hear some really FUNNY 911 stories, Mike would be the guy to talk to! ;\)

I've called a couple of times. Once when I lived in DT Vancouver and there was a homeless man with a knife walking down the alley stabbing every car's tire as he walked by and muttering obscenities. I stayed on the line with the police because quite a few people were calling about the same thing and the guy was on the move, so they were trying to find out his exact location etc... I think they got him a few blocks from my place.

The other time was because my work was in one of the worst locations for drug addicts in Van and there was a guy passed out (I think) on the sidewalk at 7am where I was parking my car. I couldn't detect whether he was alive, od'ing or worse, so I called for an ambulance to come check him out. I didn't hang around though. Walking around that neighbourhood kinda feels like you are in MJ's Thriller video.

I've only called once. A few years back I was woken up by the sound of a woman screaming for help and telling someone to leave her alone. I wasn't sure where it was coming from but hoped the officer who responded might have been able to find her. An officer came to my apartment and I told him what I heard but I'm not sure what happened after that.

I've called a few times, only once for myself. I actually just called last week!

the first time I called I was 15 and was at home skipping school. I decided to make myself some lunch and started a grease fire on the stove. Scared me to death as I was home alone. 5 fire trucks showed up, the 911 operater told me to leave the house immediately and wait outside. I remember being so mortified because I hadn't gotten dressed yet for the day and had to wait for firemen outside in my bathrobe When they got there they called my mom to let her know what had happened, she didn't know i was at home and lets just say she was not impressed with me ;\) A super funny thing happened when the firemen were checking over the house, we had an exchange student who'd lost a pet turtle (he escaped from his tank) months before hand, I mean several months before hand. We'd never found it and presumed the cat had gotten it or it made its way outside. As the firemen were leaving, one of them found the turtle making his way out the front door

The second time I called I will never forget, I often still wonder what happened. I was probably 19 or 20 at the time and still lived at home. At about 2am, I was in bed asleep and was awoken by blood curtling screams of "HELP ME SHE'S DYING", it took me a minute to come out of the fog and realize it was a lady outside. My brother and I woke up at the same time and both ran outside to see what happened, I grabbed the phone and called 911 on my way out the door. This woman had picked up her 17yr old daughter from a party, and the daughter had started to seizure and foam at the mouth in the car and the mom thought she was ODing on something, but didn't know what. That poor mother, OMG, I will never forget her. Several neighbors came out to help and when the ambulance came we all went home.

And last week I called because while I was driving home I witnessed a couple on the street having an argument. The guy started getting really aggressive and pushing the lady around, she kept trying to walk away and he kept getting in her face. I kept driving around the block to let the operator know what was going on until police got there.

Another time DH and I witnessed a guy trying to break into cars and called and followed him while waiting for police too.

I really wish there was some way to know what happens to the people you call for if they are strangers.

I did once - I accidentally ingested Drano (don't ask) and called 911. Somehow two lines got connected at once and I was talking to two operators. They couldn't hear each other and didn't know what was wrong, and I was panicking and freaking out on them. I would say something and two people would be talking over each other, then eventually I was yelling there are two operators and I can't understand you, could one of you please hang up! Eventually one did and the other told me to drink a glass of milk, and that was that. \:\/

We called 911 for Lydia when she was 2. SHe had a fever and quite lethargic. Then we realized that she seemed to be in a trance and we couldn't break her gaze. We knew something was off. I frantically started filling a bag fro the hospital, kids were getting in the van and dh was holding Lydia. She stopped breathing for a couple of minutes. Dh yelled for me to call 911. We live 1 minute from a fire station. Fire was first on the scene and then the ambulance. (In this city, fire and ambulance are always dispatched) Lydia and I went by ambulance to the hospital and she stayed in the trance until we got there. She wasn't even responding to touch. The whole febrile seizure lasted 20-30 minutes. Very scary but apparnetly harmless.

I used to lifeguard. Which story would you like?

The old lady who passed out in the pool because she had a heart condition ? I pulled her out and she recovered fairly quickly after we got some oxygen on her. Getting her list of meds was fun. The paramedics came and took her to the hospital.

The woman who fell down the steps and fractured her entire lower arm and tried to insist I give her painkillers (we're not allowed to medicate as we're not doctors/nurses)? This happened the morning after my previous story and the SAME PARAMEDICS showed up. They were not impressed.

The man who threw his son into the pool and hit another kid on the head with him? Any head trauma is considered an automatic spinal injury which means: getting everyone out of the pool, loading the kid on the spineboard, and calling 911. That was ambulance and police - we had the weight room attendant wait with the father because he KEPT TRYING TO LEAVE. Oh and it was a loonie swim which means that everyone gets in for a buck and then its complete madness.

The kid in the gymnastics class who was doing a handspring and crashed on her head? See above for spinal injuries, minus the spineboard because the paramedics just put her in a clamshell anyways.

The woman who passed out after being in the sauna and hot tub too long and was on about 50 DIFFERENT medications? I ran out of room on the form and just had her tell the paramedics when they got there.

The man who slipped on the hot tub steps and cracked his head open then refused to go with the paramedics? That one was overtime and I had to go to St. Paul's in Vancouver in my uniform because my street clothes got his blood on them - they incinerated my clothes. Paramedics cleared him of spinal injury when they got there.

I have more \:\)

I called for dd1 twice - once when she wasn't even 2 weeks old I was folding laundry & had her in the bassinet at my feet (I was on the couch) - I looked down & could see her shaking & silently choking. Wasn't sure what happened so I called 911 & did the upside down baby thing patting on the back - by the time the ambulance came she was crying & fine. They looked around & said she had some mucous (most likely just clearing her lungs from birth) she choked up but couldn't do it flat and that it was a good thing I helped her or she most likely wouldn't have made it.

The other time for dd1 was when she was 18 mo or so? She was on this ride on train & it caught on the spot between carpet/tile or something. She fell backwards & just started SCREAMING then stopped - eyes rolled back, she started shaking & was silent. This lasted over a minute - I have no idea of time I was talking to 911 when she started crying so hard I couldn't hear - they told me b/c she was crying again to call my family dr & hung up. Dr figures it was her way of dealing with intense pain (turns out she hit the back of her neck by her skull with the metal thing that separates the tile from carpet). I ended up having to take her to our family dr but it was naptime & she kept trying to fall asleep & I kept trying to keep her awake - and I was about 8 months pregnant so hard to move fast & carry this big girl around ;\)

Then dh had to call when I was in labor with dd4 b/c we only had 1 m/w but even though we were less than 5 min from a fire station or ambulance they still managed to miss the birth (law is you need 2 m/w there when you deliver or you have to call 911...they didn't dispatch b/c it was my 4th & all were 'uncomplicated' or so we said LOL)

Dh on the other hand has had to call more times than I can count & usually it is about an accident. Though my favorite was when he was following a guy who was big & high from work - he was telling them where the guy was going so the police could find him (the guy was wanted for questioning due to an 'unknown' bag he dropped at our office & threatening the office. Dh also took the unknown bag out of the building in case it was a bomb like the guy said (it was dirty laundry thank goodness! LOL). We were even late for our first prenatal class b/c dh saw an accident & he had to stop and check on them then call 911 & wouldn't leave until ambulance arrived 'just in case' something happened.

I remember when dh had to call 911 when I was having dd4 - he just hung up the phone & his friend was calling him on his cell phone. There are pictures of him in the mirror closet doors of him with phone under one ear & camera taking pictures of me delivering. Sigh. That's what you get for having news people with scanners knowing where you live! LOL

His friend was calling to see if I was ok b/c he heard the ambulance being called out & a pregnant lady being involved. Recognizing our address he assumed the worst. Sigh. Then his friend asked if he could come over & video tape the birth. ARGH NO!!! ;\)

At least dh was good & DID say no w/o asking me. No way do I need that on the morning news ROFL

I called 911 once when I was in high school. My bedroom was in the basement and I heard a 'thump' and then walking above me. I thought someone had broken in. However, in my state of panic I dialed 411 instead. LOL.

Once I got the three numbers right, the police kept me on the phone as they dispatched the police. They kept talking to me as I heard the footsteps above me. Finally the dispatcher instructed me to go upstairs and open the door as the police had both back and front entrances covered. As I went up the stairs and opened the door this MASSIVE cat greeted me. I didn't have a cat!! Looks like a cat was leaning on the screen window from the outside, knocked the screen down inside because it was HUGE, and proceeded to walk through the townhouse. A cheaply built townhouse was the reason why I could hear a cat's footsteps, and did I mention it was HUGE??

I imagine the police had a good chuckle that day.

Several times \:\( most for my middle daughter

When she was 6 months old she turned blue and seized in her crib, she stopped breathing and we had to do CPR. We went to hospital and they said it was a febrile seizure, that she had a UTI and sent us home. 2 hours after getting home she was unresponsive and seizing again. I called telehealth and they transferred us to 911. Off to the hospital again..it turns out that they somehow missed the fact that my baby had bacterial meningitis and she almost died.

When she was two, she became unresponsive yet again at first we thought she had a seizure (she suffered brain damage from the meningitis), but this time we couldn't wake her at all afterwards. By the time the paramedics arrived she was in a coma and her blood sugar was 1.2

We have had to call for her several times since, mostly for seizures that last longer than 5 minutes. We now have an emergency glucagon kit for when her sugar crashes and we can't get something into her orally. She has a metabolic condition.
