Due to high gas prices, have your vacation plans changed this summer?
Are you considering a "Staycation"?

Nope, we are still driving 36 hours from Edmonton to Toronto. The kids haven't been back home in 6 years and driving with these gas prices is still cheaper than flying 5 of us and then renting a van once we get there

We're not even driving outside the city. It's ok for the kids because they are doing lots of camps but I am itching to get away. I even plan on the beach and it's only 10 minutes.

We took two weeks this summer - one in July & one in August. We usually do 'mini' vacations & call ourselves tourists in our own City. We figure people from all over the world come to sight see around here - we might as well enjoy it also! LOL
But we usually do longerish day trips. This July though dh has to go back to Ontario to see his mom who just had a heart attack/stroke for 4 days of our July holiday. So I am home with our five kids plus 2 international students who are in school until 2:30 & we have to be home by then to be with them. So VERY mini trips in July! LOL
Come August our international students will be gone after 4 weeks & our niece will be moved to her new home with her parents after being with us for 3 weeks so we are taking some DEFINATE fun family time.
But it's just so expensive with 5 kids. Gad, flying, cost of doing things once you are there. But by staying closer to home & doing that 'touristy' stuff we can buy memberships to the zoo, aquarium or season passes to Playland.

No, I have planned a few weekends away with the kids around the province and intend to keep my promise to them.
I do however have a gas efficient vehicle and bought it before the prices soared so even though I am not happy the cost has doubled since I bought the car I am still happy I made the choice and will continue on as I have for as long as I can.
