N.S. Bans smoking in Cars with Children Under 19

Nova Scotia has become the first Canadian province to ban smoking in vehicles with children under the age of 19. The new law comes into effect this month and will likely be police-enforced and involve a fine levied through a ticket system.
What are your views on this bill? Would you like to see it have an impact encouraging other provinces to pass similar bills? Should the government make smoking in cars with children illegal?

Yes, we all know the dangers of second hand smoke. It should fall under child endangerment.
Expect a huge battle though!

I think it's really sad that they have to do that. People shouldn't have to be fined to not smoke in cars with kids. It should just be common sense.

I agree, but look at the Drinking and Driving thing.....They had to "outlaw" that as well....as well as put an age limit on when you could drink legally....etc
Everything that should be common sense...really isn't.....
Personally I think this is awesome....now I'd just like to see how they plan on enforcing the issue.....

This brings back memories of going on our family summer trips to BC in our station wagon shile my parent puffed away on their cigarettes, turning the air blue with disgusting smoke! We hated that! 
It is a great law and should be copied by every province in Canada. 
That said, it sadly will not be enforced, as our RCMP members are understaffed and overtaxed trying to keep up with impaired drivers, break and enters, and illicit drug users. They'll never take the time to pull over a car with an adult smoking in a car full of kids.

My BIL as an RCMP officer told me it is an EXCELLENT idea of a law to ban smoking from vehicle with young passengers. He just can't wait to trck down that. It's not hard to catch them doing to their kids.
