So your baby has colic! What better place to share your anxiety, stress, concerns, solutions... than right here in Parents of Babies. Either you are currently going through having a child with Colic or you may have just come through it. Whatever the case, by sharing how you are dealing with it/dealt with it will help a fellow parent.

While I have luckily never had to deal with colic myself I do help to run a support group for parents of babies. One lady that came to our group had a lot of success with taking her baby to a chiropractor. He did a series of very gentle adjustments on her baby (nothing like you imagine a chiropractor does) and there was a HUGE difference! Another thing that some people who are breastfeeding might want to consider is that their baby has a milk sensitivity. Often once mothers give up milk in their diet (and it can take up to two weeks to get the dairy out of their systems) they notice a big difference in their babies.

Hi Katelily

Hmmm. Wish I had heard about the chiropractor when my first was a baby. She screamed her way through her first 7mos. We are talking all through the day not just in the evening hours like a lot of people mean when they talk about colic.

Milk did make her worse but that isn't surprising since I am allergic to it myself. I totally gave up dairy products while I nursed her and it did help a bit but not totally. I did get a Dr. to check her out in case there was something really wrong with her but there wasn't. Mostly I just had to be very patient and ride it out.

She would often quiet down if I danced with her. Tom Petty was her favorite. LOL I spent so much time dancing with her that I was back to my prepregnancy weight by the time she was 6wks old!!

I look back at that time and am amazed at the patience I had. I guess I knew that she was not doing it on purpose. That if she was crying she was in distress even if there was no physical sign of if.

She is now a very spirited 7yo.

And as a consolation to those going through it now. My next baby was very easy going and slept a lot. He rarely cried. He was so quiet I took him to the Dr. because I thought there was something wrong because he didn't cry. LOL

Our daughter was terribly colic at 3 months. We tried everything conventional and otherwise. We were told about the chiropractor helping and thank goodness we took the advice. After finding a Chiropractor we were comfortable with 3 sessions later our daughter was not troubled by colic at all. It was INCREDIBLE watching the changes in her after every appointment. It is definately worth a try it will give you back a happy baby.

Wow! Only someone who has cared for a baby with colic can really understand the amazing stress this can put a family under. Our son screamed every waking moment from 6 weeks to his 3 month birthday, unless he was being danced around, or walked at a very fast pace. My husband and I lost about 60 lbs between the two of us! As I said, only three things worked, dancing, walking and the vacuum cleaner. Nothing else worked - not rides in the car, rides in the stroller, changing food, testing for food sensitivity (I did an elimination diet on the advice of a nutritionist - nothing but turkey, squash, pears and potatoes for 2 weeks), the dishwasher, putting him on the dryer, swinging him in the swing. I was convinced that we would have a completely unhappy child for the rest of our lives. Then magically, at 3 months, the crying lessened and went away. Our GP later told us that she had never seen anything like it in all her years of practice. One thing that I have noticed is that our son never spit-up. Ever. Perhaps that has something to do with the crying? One thing that sometimes also helped was baby ovol (smithecone). Anyways, good luck to any parent with a baby with colic, my prayers are with you everyday!
