It's been quiet in here. Is this because we are all outside, eating our rabbit food and exercising like maniacs all summer long ;\) ?

I just wanted to touch base and see how everyone's weight loss/weight maintenance program is going this summer.

Care to share?

I have been working hard on the "Head stuff", the stuff that has been inhibiting my efforts (a lot of all or nothing thinking). I am working on getting in tune with my true hunger symbols. I am also working on ensuring that my food selections in general are nourishing for my body (and sometimes chocolate is nourishing ;\) ).

So Eating has been great, that said, my exercise is seriously lagging right now, but am slowly getting back to my daily habit. Not saying I am not active, just not taking the 1 hour time for me to get in a good workout.

Ali

The head stuff is so important in order to be on the right path. It's good you are addressing that right now Ali. One step at a time.

I finally had all my head stuff in place last January, when I embarked on my successful journey. It started with a career change.

But now I'm being forced to go back to my old job, and I am so worried that I will fall back into where I was before. The people in my old job are miserable, and they drain every ounce of my energy when I'm around them all day long. It's going to be a huge hurdle come September.

i think it's so important to be in the right frame of mind. i've really been watching what i eat and going on the treadmill every day. i feel guilty if i miss a day. \:\/ i feel so much better and my cloths are not as snug. my mil actually noticed my weight loss. \:\)

i think if we all encourage one another to stay on track, we can avoid a relapse. ;\)

ali, i wouldn't jump into 1 hr workouts if you haven't been active. start off small. i only do 30 mins a day and i am seeing a big difference.

I have been banging my head against the wall in my free time. I really lack time right now but I have been active daily. Not strenuous exercise but tons of walking and either babywearing or pushing 2 kids in a double stroller. I am eating okay...not super but not too bad. And the weight is slowly increasing. I'm pretty sure it's due to my meds but I don't have a solution.

Other than that, we're having a great fun summer! \:\)

Squish - perhaps download some motiviating podcasts to listen to while working. I know it can be tough, I have been there before.

Anyway, so proud, I got myself to the gym for the 6:10am weight lifting class... It was hard, my daughter was up for almost 16 hours yesterday and was fighting sleep like crazy.

WTG Ali!

I've been sticking to my running schedule, and I got in a 10K run on Saturday morning. I left at 7 am, and was back by 8 am, but by that time it was already 24 degrees and 30 with the humidex . I do not like training in the summer.

Next week I am in the Pocono's, so my long run will involve hills no doubt. Oh that's going to hurt.

squish, how often do you do a long run? once a week?

i'm still doing 24 mins of running...i've hit a plateau....can seem to get past the 10lbs mark....i'm thinking of adding another 8 mins to my run. i start off with a 2min walk and then run for 8 mins x3. i think if i add another round, i may see the weight start coming off again. or i could just add 1 day of a longer run. what do you think?

Yes, once per week.

During the week I do from 3.5-6 K runs. Then (usually) on the weekend I do one long run. I have slowly been in increasing my distance over the past few months, and I am now at 10K. I am doing a 10K race in the fall, but my personal goal was to be able to do 10K comfortably by the end of July so I can start to increase my speed. I'll work at getting up to 12K just so by the time October rolls around, I can do 10K without a problem.

Last year I hit a plateau with weight loss, even though I was running up to 14K on my long runs. The only thing that made a difference for me was to change what I ate. So you can try to increase your distance. It won't hurt. Just try not to justify eating more because you are running more. That was the trap I fell into last year, and even though I could run far, I wasn't losing weight. KWIM?

Hi guys

Sorry I haven't been around, this summer is supper busy for me!

Ali, I'm so glad you are able to get a bit of YOU time. I remember how hard it was with little ones.
Tricia, with all that has been going on, I've put that 10 k on the backburner. But I really do want to do it with you. I've been slowly getting back to the running, not sure how ready I can be for Oct...but I'm going to try.
I've been doing about 6 k a night...not all running mind you as DH comes with me most nights.
What I need to do is a morning run and then not push him so hard at night..lol
Kelly, carbs feed the body, just make sure they are the right carbs...avoid anything white! \:\) I know...easier said than done.
Melissa, with 4 kids, don't be so hard on yourself. And all that walking and running after the kids I'm sure has gotten you in much better shape than you think you are.

As for weight...I had gained a few pounds in Holland. Did a ton of walking, but ate a ton too. I did one serious run there, but thats all I had time for. Then came home and haven't stopped moving. I lost all the weight that I gained. Sigh..so hard to find that perfect balance to maintain. And I simply refuse to eat junk food or go back to all the bad habits that allowed me to get so big in the first place.

Keep up all the hard work everyone!!

Thanks for giving us an update Kiki! Don't worry about the 10K. You have had so much to deal with this year \:\( . Just get out and focus on running, or walking or whatever fits with your routine right now.

Well I'm still losing a little bit of weight it seems. I'm at the stage where I'm trying to maintain, but a little bit is still coming off. I'm down to a nice, round number now \:\) . This is the weight I was 20 years ago . My running is going well. My long runs are up to 10K, and then I do 3 other small runs during the week 3-6K usually. Vacation starts tomorrow, and I'm in the mountains again, so I'll be doing more hill training I guess.
