Just out of curiosity... And please name what food you started with?

6 months, and the first bite was banana but she didn't end up liking bananas until much later. The first foods I fed her regularly were avocado, quinoa, oatmeal and egg yolk.

4 months, because she kept grabbing for my food. Rice cereal followed quickly by pears. She wasn't impressed with the rice cereal.

6 months, because he had been showing all the signs of readiness for about 3 or 4 weeks by then--we were starting to have to hide our eating from him! So we waited until 6 months, and then tried it.
It was only about once every 3 days though for the first while.

Just shortly before 6mnths but he's still only interested in purees when he feels like it. He prefers boob over spoon.

We tried at 6 mos but she got too painfully constipated so we postponed it til 8-9 months. She started with butternut squash at 6 months but when we tried her again at 8-9 mos she just ate what we did.

I answered 4 months but this was only the case for my son (now 2 1/2 years old) but for my daugther (now 4 years old), we started at 6 months.
For my daughter, we started at 6 months since we thought that was the time you should start - it went well. For my son, we started at 4 months because if not, he would nurse all evening long, he seemed hungry. In hindsight, we should have let him continue to nurse and wait for him to eat solids since he then weaned at 5 months and also, he took longer to eat real solids (for the longest time, he almost only ate tofu, yogurt and pureed fruits/vegetables).
For both, we had started with rice cereal (again since I thought this was normal/needed) but since coming on these boards, I will probably skip the baby cereal for baby #3 (due at the end of November).

DS was ready at 5 months but we held off until 6 because it was "the thing to do". His first foods were banana, avocado, applesauce, homemade oatmeal, rice and barley cereals, carrots, squash, sweet potato.

My first 3 were at 3 months, and I did the standard rice cereal, barley, etc etc, then vegetables, then fruit. But with DD, who is my experiment baby, LOL, I waited until 4.5 months, she was grabbing for food that I was eating, as well as having weight gain issues. I gave her a teeny bit of rice cereal, but she hated it. Then we did mashed avocado. She likes squash at the moment, but I don't give her solids regularily, sometimes once a day, sometimes not at all. I don't bother with the cereal at the moment. she is 5 months old today.

I put 8 months, as that is what DD2 did. We tried with cereals at 6 months, but she had no interest. Started with avocado at 8 months, and she hasn't stopped since. Pretty much ate what we ate since then too.
DD1 we started at 6 months and she is still gobbling her food...
